Cashu tokens have less power projection capabilities compared to lightning transfers. So nutzaps should count for less than lightning zaps when measuring the energy content in a network.

This post really hit a nerve, with me, as #GitCitadel is actually a bunch of people who came to Nostr originally to use it, and ended up building a team to solve problems we were having with it. Like

* vaporware,

* disappearing devs,

* ugly, buggy, inefficient apps,

* spammy/gross relays,

* lack of high-quality content,

* Bitcoin-only feeds,

* irritating focus on follow lists and influencers, etc.

I think developers building solutions to solve problems they are personally frustrated with, is the most-powerful project model.

User built. User funded. User tested. User marketed.

Low time-preference, grass-roots development.

The reason you didn't get a grant/NIP/whatthefuckevah is that you just had a vague application and no PoW. ... okay, your application is now defined, but still no PoW. ...... okay, your application is defined, there's PoW, but no market for it. ............ okay, your application is defined, there's PoW and a market, but no other relay or client is interoperable with your events. ............... okay, your application is defined, and there's PoW and a market, but only one other relay and one client is interoperable with your events. ............... okay, that's three clients and two relays, you have 8 devs and 5 support staff working actively on this thing, and people are paying you for subscriptions, and you have one of the most-popular geyserfunds and your announcements constantly trend, but...

It's not an accident that some of the people who have received the most money for building on Nostr now sound the most bearish on Nostr.

They thought the money was indicative of wider public interest, and the speed with which the protocol would gain popularity, but it wasn't.

It takes time, for viable use cases to percolate up, for the necessary specs to get teased out and mature, and for sustainable teams to establish themselves. Those are the teams that will build the things that make the protocol popular.
