Old hens still got it! Occasionally.

When you first get your hens once they begin laying they will do so just about every day their first year. Then they start slowly down. It’s very normal. My old girls lay about every two ir three days. My olive-egger lays less than that. Her beautiful green eggs are a happy break from all the brown. Today seven of my eight girls earned their keep.

I am just finishing starting some seeds.

I have some onions, lettuces, kale, peas, chives, parsley, and carrots. Normally you wouldn’t start carrots but these are in the peat pots so I’ll just stick them in a large one later. I do 99% of my garden in containers.

I still need to get some Swiss chard, celeriac, and the regular kitchen herb garden seeds.

I was going to make a cute valentines image using the beef heart I cooked. Instead, I had to dash off to get Mr. Holstein when his car broke down on the way to work. Good morning all y’all! It is cold out this morning! Right now it’s 37°F/2.8°C on the Holstein House front porch, in my part of Kanawha County, West Virginia, USA! Emergency help packing food boxes for tomorrow. Two key people are sick so grand-nephew and I helping out in a couple hours.

Also, I need to tidy this porcelain doll up for a sweet girl. I find conflicting info on how ro tame the hair. Some say a fabric softener/water mix and comb, others say baby shampoo/water mix.
