Good morning Nostr! ☕️🫂💜
Back at work today after a week off last week. It was a fairly relaxing week off so I'm feeling somewhat refreshed and ready for the challenges that work brings this year.
The last half of 2024 was extremely busy for me with the company I work for undergoing a large amount of growth. This required a lot of new network infrastructure to be deployed, a lot of late night work to deploy and migrate customers to the new infrastructure, and many hours spent troubleshooting issues (mainly due to the network equipment vendor's software bugs..). I'm hoping that this year won't be quite as busy and I can find a much better work-life balance.

It had been a long time since I last did an update to my Nostr resources web page so I spent some time over the last couple of days removing a lot of the dead links and adding some newer Nostr clients and projects that were missing. I’m still planning to do some further updates to add new projects as I come across them. https://www.austrich.net/nostr/

Up to 12 channels on my new Eclair node now. Routing is a bit inconsistent so I think I need to play around with the fees some more but it has been very reliable routing zaps from my Alby Hub. So far I’m happy with the change from LND to Eclair.

I've been running Alby Hub a few days now and I thought I would share my experience with it so far.
The initial installation and setup was very straightforward. I opted to use docker on my own hardware and the process was basically just:
- Install Linux
- Install Docker
- Download the docker compose file from the Alby GitHub and run it
- Perform the initial Alby Hub configuration through the web interface
Once the initial configuration was performed at least one Lightning channel needs to be opened to be able to send/receive payments. There are options to buy channels from several LSPs which is likely to be the way a lot of people would choose to use Alby Hub but I wanted to route payments through my own lightning node so I transferred some funds and opened a channel. This was an easy process and worked without any issues.
The next step was to get Damus connected to the Alby Hub. This was also an easy process by just adding the connection in Alby Hub and then adding the NWC URL in Damus. One really nice feature about Alby Hub is the ability to set up each NWC connection with it's own spending limit. Using NWC rather than an external wallet (I was previously using Zeus) in Damus means that zapping is a single click and I've found that I'm zapping more notes now than I was before.
I haven't set up a lightning address to receive zaps inbound to the Alby Hub yet but that is the next thing I plan to do.
I also installed the Alby Go wallet application and connected it to Alby Hub. Alby Go is a nice looking and simple mobile wallet application that connects to the Alby Hub. I haven't had the need to use it much yet though.
Overall I'm very happy with Alby Hub so far. I think it is a great solution for anyone wanting a simple non-custodial way to manage lightning funds, and also for people like myself who have another node but want a way to separate zapping/spending funds.

Reposting this for the newcomers to Nostr. There are many Nostr clients available and if you aren’t happy with the experience you are getting, don’t give up on Nostr but try a different client. Not all clients implement the Nostr protocol in the same way, and they implement different sets of features, so you may find you prefer the experience you get with a different client.

One of the most important aspects of #nostr is that it is a protocol and you aren’t locked in to a single client. If you don’t like the experience you are getting, or want a specific feature that the client you are using doesn’t have, then there are other great clients to choose from. You can even use different clients at the same time for different purposes.
While I personally use Damus, I also frequently try out some of the other clients and I encourage others to do the same. A good way to try clients is to create a new nsec just for testing. If you are trying any of the web clients, use one of the signing extensions such as nos2x for Chrome or nos2x-fox for Firefox rather than entering your nsec directly into the client.
These is a list of some of the more mature social media type clients. There are also many “other stuff” clients but I’ll leave them for maybe another future note. @npub142g...xrj0 - Android - https://www.amethyst.social @npub13my...v3qk - Web - https://coracle.social @npub18m7...q955 - iOS - http://damus.io Gossip - MacOS/Linux/Windows - https://github.com/mikedilger/gossip/releases @npub1pu3...tfch - iOS - https://nos.social noStrudel - Web - https://nostrudel.ninja @npub1n0s...k6h0 - MacOS/iOS - https://nostur.com @npub12vk...pugg - Android/iOS/Web - https://primal.net @npub1sn0...jtws - Web - https://snort.social @npub1yzv...rf8q - Android/iOS/Web - https://www.yakihonne.com

Grass fed sirloin steak with shiitake mushroom sauce for dinner. The sauce is just fresh, locally grown, shiitake mushrooms cooked in butter, garlic, white wine and cream. Simple but tasty. #proofofsteak
