LANSING, Mich. (WILX) -Consumers Energy announced a new electric rate hike request, exactly one week before the next rate hike takes effect.
Consumers announced it requested a rate hike before the Michigan Public Service Commission on Friday, March 28.
A utility company can only file one rate hike request every 12 months. The current application would come exactly 366 days after their last application.
The last rate hike was approved on March 21, with the MPSC approving a $154 million hike.
It’s currently unknown how much money Consumers will request. A summary of the request is expected to be filed before the end of June.
Previously, Consumers requested an 8% hike in 2024 and a 5% hike in 2023.
