He/Him. Married photographer, geek, writer, drinker of coffee. A New England native in Tennessee.
Diagnosed in my early 40s with ASD (Asperger's under the former nomenclature). It's a neurodevelopmental disability, not a superpower or identity.
Surprisingly, I do computer stuff for a living.

The lid of my laptop is partially covered in stickers, and I'll probably add even more. But I can't bring myself to put stickers on my desktop tower case.
It may be because my laptop is mostly dedicated to casual use, while my desktop is (sometimes) for more "serious" purposes.

I think the only sticker I've ever put on PC tower was a little MSI motherboard badge.

Lots of Tesla talk lately. I've only ever seen one Tesla on the road that I know of. I noticed the logo on a car ahead of me in stopped traffic.
It's always been strange to me that cars are regarded as status symbols. Actually, I feel the same way about all status symbols. 🤷‍♂️

Do any of you Fujifilm digital shooters experiment with the custom "recipes" people create?
I just configured the "Classic Cuban Neg" on my X-T5, and have to say it's an interesting look! I plan to try it outside tomorrow. #Fujifilm https://www.fujirumors.com/this-recipe-is-taking-the-fujifilm-community-by-storm-classic-cuban-neg/

how are you getting along with the XT5?
After my initial disappointment with the build quality (which isn't bad - just not as good as my old X-T2), I'm enjoying it.
I haven't gotten to shoot it as much as I'd like so far, but I'm planning to head out for some random photo adventuring today. 🙂

ahh, that’s good to know. I’ve seen some lovely images from them, so was curious to see if it grew on you.

Butt and thighs very sore from all the garden work yesterday carrying heavy stones and buckets of rubble up to the top, and walking up and down the stairs and the steps out the back too many times, and possibly from [redacted] the night before

Repetitive, um... movements, will do it every time. 😆

Popped up the shop and bought some planticles :D The planticle shop (it's a 'sells everything' community shop) is directly behind the house, two minutes walk \o/
Breakfast, then gardening!

When I ordered this off Etsy a few days ago, I thought I'd found the perfect earthenware pot for a photo shoot I have planned in a few weeks.
I didn't realize there would be some assembly required. :(

Replaced the saddle on my bike this morning, re-attached the noodle that wouldn't go back into the retainer after taking the front wheel off because the guy had tightened the break pads all the way, so I just had to slacken them off, pop the noodle back into the retainer, then re-adjust the pads.
Now I'm fixing the v-brakes being misaligned on the back wheel (or will be when my headache goes).
This was a really good video for a beginner like me :D

So, one arm of the v-brake isn't popping back into 'disengaged' position when I release the brake. Standard methods for centering the brake pads (adjusting the spring tension) didn't work. Next step I think is to detatch the cable and see how it feels sliding it by hand, grease everything, check there's no shoe underhang, then see about making bigger changes to the spring tension than the tensioning screw alone can accomplish.

Oh, scratch that. I WD40'd the living shit out of the whole mechanism earlier and left it a while to see if it would loosen up, and now it's working perfectly.
Huzzah!

If you can't fix it with lube or duct tape, is it even repairable?

Impressive results there! I really need to revisit Darktable. I know it's a highly capable program, but I always found the interface a bit unintuitive.
Admittedly, it's been a few years since I last took a deep dive into it.
Ah yeah, the UI and tools available has improved a lot in the last few years :D
274 days ago•••
Somebody else told me there are Fujifilm simulations out there for Darktable, too - a big plus for some of us. You've sold me on giving it a fresh try! :)

Our tomato plants are all coming into flower this week. I love the smell of a greenhouse full of tomatoes. It's chastening to think how grim the European diet must have been before the introduction of all the exotic fruits and vegetables from the Americas - things like potatoes, maize, and peppers, as well as tomatoes...
The best thing about growing tomatoes is the aroma of the plants. :)

I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, but - goshdarnit - somebody new will almost certainly dismiss me as a "reply guy" today. #ActuallyAutistic

It's always unsettling to hear a coworker has been fired - even more so when you gather it was an ugly episode. In my roughly 7 months with this company's IT department, that's the second person to be dismissed.
That may not be unusual. I've just not seen firings happen a lot in past jobs, and it leaves me feeling a bit insecure. By all indications, the person they fired today was very competent at her job.

I managed to get off my butt today for a bit of photo therapy at the Knoxville Botanical Garden.
These were all taken with the XF70-300mm zoom, which makes for a decent macro alternative.

I'm pretty sure that certain people post comments as bait to draw out what they call "reply guys." It gives them an excuse to go full snark on total strangers who fall into their trap.
I generally avoid being obnoxious on social media, but one of the drawbacks of having autism is that the line between being a "reply guy" and engaging in friendly banter is super fuzzy to me.
But if it boosts your sense of social superiority to attack the neuro-developmentally disabled, have at it. 🤷‍♂️

Something we're losing as big chain stores take over small towns are community bulletin boards like this one in Hartland, VT (March 2012).
Dollar General, by contrast, doesn't care about rural communities beyond the profits they can skim and funnel back to their remote shareholders.

Photos help me remember details otherwise lost to time. I remember being especially excited about taking this photo back in October 1995.
I'd noticed how nice the light was over this pond, so I brought my camera to work the following day.
Since then, trees have grown up in front of the water and mostly blocked this view from the road. This was shot along route 12A in my hometown of Plainfield. #NewHampshire #ThrowbackThursday #KonicaTCX
