I understand realpolitik and the transactional nature of international relations. Still, using an invasion and the threat of existential destruction to force a country to surrender half of its rare resources in exchange for protection is nothing but racketeering. It is morally reprehensible.

During interviews, I get a lot of questions about the potential for a strategic bitcoin reserve and how it may affect price.
I typically answer by talking about how I tend to take the 'under' on the prospect for a bitcoin reserve. In other words, as a base case they might recategorize currently-held bitcoin, might add a bit, etc. My lesser case is that they go and actually buy a lot, which would positively affect price, sure. I then go on about how, my long-term bullishness of bitcoin is not dependent on that, and I'd rather structure my view to assume a baseline and potentially be surprised to the upside on price within a given period, rather than focus on singular bullish catalysts and then be surprised to the downside if those specific things don't materialize.
That's Lyn Speak for "I find this question really boring, please stop asking me it."

This is possible, but it will require the use of a separate Nostr app called listr.lol by nprofile1qythwumn8ghj7un9d3shjtnswf5k6ctv9ehx2ap0qyvhwumn8ghj7un9d3shjtnndehhyapwwdhkx6tpdshsz9nhwden5te0wfjkccte9e4x2enxvuhxv7tf9uq3zamnwvaz7tmwdaehgu3wwa5kuef0qy88wumn8ghj7mn0wvhxcmmv9uq3samnwvaz7tmxd9k8getj9ehx7um5wgh8w6twv5hszxthwden5te0wpex2mtfw4kjuurjd9kkzmpwdejhgtcpzdmhxue69uhhqatjwpkx2urpvuhx2ue0qy2hwumn8ghj7un9d3shjtnyv9kh2uewd9hj7qg6waehxw309aex2mrp0yhxwet5v9kxy7fwvdhk6tmkxyqzq9eemymaerqvwdc25f6ctyuvzx0zt3qld3zp5hf5cmfc2qlrzdh0h075x5 .
Go there and make a list of the npubs you consider your "close friends." You can have each entry on the list considered "private" so other users won't be able to see who they are, but at least one entry will need to be "public" in order for the list to show up in Amethyst.
Once your list is saved with all the npubs you want included, pop back over to Amethyst and at the top of your home page, tap on "All Follows" and the list you created should be displayed as an option to select.
Now you have a feed with JUST those npubs' posts.

Amnesty International’s Security Lab has a post about 3 vulnerabilities exploited by Cellebrite to extract data from locked Android devices. #GrapheneOS blocked exploiting these vulnerabilities in multiple different ways. We also patched them much earlier.
Each of these is an upstream Linux kernel vulnerability:
* CVE-2024-53104: heap overflow in a Linux kernel USB webcam driver
* CVE-2024-53197: heap overflow in a Linux kernel USB sound card driver
* CVE-2024-50302: uninitialized heap memory in a Linux kernel USB touchpad driver
GrapheneOS blocks reaching any of these vulnerabilities for locked devices through our USB-C port and pogo pins control feature disabling new connections at a hardware level and a software level after locking along with disabling USB data in hardware too:
CVE-2024-50302 is benign on GrapheneOS. For both the kernel and the rest of the OS, we use the combination of use zero-on-free and either zero-on-allocate or a write-after-free check at allocation time. On devices with hardware memory tagging (MTE), it's done as part of tagging.
CVE-2024-53104 and CVE-2024-53197 are both kernel heap overflows in slab allocations. We provide improved defenses against these attacks in multiple ways covered in the kernel section at https://grapheneos.org/features#exploit-mitigations. Our defenses in userspace are far stronger due to hardened_malloc.
We recently enabled hardware memory tagging (MTE) for Linux kernel after over a year of deploying it for userspace via hardened_malloc. It provides an approximation of memory safety which can be improved over time. It requires hardware support exclusive to 8th/9th gen Pixels.
GrapheneOS shipped patches for these 3 vulnerabilities significantly before the stock Pixel OS or inclusion in an Android Security Bulletin through shipping the latest Linux kernel GKI LTS releases. However, what really matters is we prevented them being used before discovery.
We have a recent post at https://grapheneos.social/@GrapheneOS/113961075324902277 covering how we've significantly improved our defenses against forensic data extraction since January 2024. It covers a lot more than what we talked about here and we recommend reading it along with our features page covering more.
I really enjoy these reports. It would be nice to know when exactly these security holes were patched on stock android though.
The Android Security Bulletin tells you of CVEs that get uncovered and patched in Android. They'll also link the commits that patch them.
In this case example only CVE-2024-53104 was patched and it happened this month.
CVE-2024-53197 and CVE-2024-50302 have been patched upstream in the Linux kernel but have not yet been in Android. It doesn't effect GrapheneOS due to the security features and us updating Linux kernel Generic Kernel Image (GKI) every time there's a new revision rather than Google only doing it quarterly or less and only backporting patches in special cases.
Because of that, many upstream kernel vulnerabilities are available in Android but not GrapheneOS, we talk about that on the site here:
I talked about CVE-2024-53014 prior here, we patched this vulnerability months prior thanks to earlier and complete kernel patching, appears to be December. We were pretty right on the money with what our assumption this vulnerability was being used for and by who.

He's irrelevant if I want to spend BTC. He can't stop me. Powerful politicians attempted to stop me taking payments from Russian citizens, and they failed miserably, thanks to the mighty BTC, which is not under their (or Saylor's) control. That's precisely why I love BTC

CAN in capital letters looks big, but is it convincing? Please explain what regulations you are concerned about. I advise you to sell your Bitcoin if you believe what you have written, because if powerful actors CAN control it, they WILL. Personally, I see that Bitcoin is more powerful than Michael Saylor, or Keir Starmer, or Donald Trump, or Vladimir Putin. These people are just men. They are not ubermensch.

Reminder for Bitcoin devs:
When you push code, organized crime is watching.
When you add that dependency, North Korea is trying to comprise its dependencies.
When you leave your laptop unlocked in public, you don’t know who’s gonna hit a few keys.
Stay vigilant. It’s not a lot more work to be careful and avoid dependencies, but it’s a ton of work to clean up after someone loses a billion dollars.

The effect of this de facto monopoly is, that any authoritarian government can target individuals for any reason- for instance claim, they are terrorists,-press charges and request to release the chat metadata (contacts, locations) from the centralized Meta database. Zuckerberg will comply.

Oh wow it totally went over my head that Meta was directly involved in that , they basically created a closed internet that only has FB products (Facebook Basic , whatsapp basic ) in multiple countries around the world since 2012 and it’s still the case today , just imagine the effect of 13 years of that

Thanks for sharing. So scary
Yeah, Facebook is still very much “the internet” for a lot of people in certain countries. Believe it or not, for some, it’s the ONLY online experience they’ve ever had.
It was marketed as a “let’s democratize internet access” initiative for developing nations, pushed by local telecom operators with silent Facebook’s backing. The numbers never really added up, so it’s pretty clear that Facebook was heavily subsidizing those deals. That’s why internet plans that only allow access to Facebook products are up to 80% cheaper , they made sure their ecosystem became the default.
Makes you wonder if this was about connectivity or just locking in entire populations to Facebook’s version of the closed internet. The only solution out of this would be to actually democratize open internet access for them Via Satellite , or for the decentralized networks to start working on low accessible low bandwidth products
6 days ago•••
Same with WhatsApp in many African countries … you get free „internet“ which only consists of Meta products.
