What are your favorite hardware wallets, among the latest generation of them?
And are there any that you really don’t like?
Just use Krux with Sparrow once... You can test drive with Krux app, without spending a single sat. https://github.com/odudex/krux_binaries/tree/main/Android It's simple and objective, big QR codes and touchscreen. Later, for a few sats you can buy an Amigo(ready to use), just flash the firmware and have the same touch UX, on a dedicated device without OS and wifi/BLE.

We are testing krux encrypted mnemonic QR codes as a way to diversify mnemonic storage and transport. There are 48k sats associated with the mnemonic encrypted on upper QR code. The wallet is native Segwit, there's no passphrase. You can try to hack, share this or send some sats the wallet to increase the bounty through bottom QR code address. Of course, please share the vulnerability if you find one.

Please don't send sats to this wallet as the challenge is over! It was not decrypted, even when the decryption key was exposed for 1 hour. Someone else donated after the key was disclosed, but fortunately the person who donated was able to retrieve the funds himself, as no one was paying attention 😁

Did you know you can use Krux to sign files releases, etc? You can store your private key offline, in a QR code, Encrypted QR code, a TinySeed... Use this scrip to help you create a signature and a public key which openssl could use for verification:

Due to the absolute clusterfuck of a derivation path hunt I went through today I'm in needs to find a new bitcoin mobile wallet that is not Bluewallet but knows how to handle an xpub. A wallet that knows how to derive SegWit and taproot addresses and doesn't try to sneak legacies in. Must be Android and Open Source (apk available or fdroid or with zero trackers from play store).

Nunchuk

Would like to try but they only offer Google Play Store download, which I access through Aurora Store and that doesn't work anymore these days. Google shut down the anonymous accounts. I don't see a Nunchuk apk download or a github page. Shame.

You're my new hero! ...what do you know about changing car door locks? How to cost efficiently fix squeaking floorboards? Why do shoe sizes differ so greatly between brands? What's the name of our neighbour? I forgot and feel stupid to ask again.

I settled for Unstoppable. It's open source and on fdroid. No company trying to sell me services, no scary privacy policy (as with Green). Its camera function can actually scan the tiny QR code from the coldcard, Nunchuk failed here, Nunchuk also doesn't offer simple zpub pasting, they made it way to complicated. Thanks guys! 🫂

👉 I'm in needs of help moving funds from an old single sig legacy address: I exported my Coldcard's xpub to Bluewallet. Bluewallet derived an address from that xpub onto which I received funds. Unfortunately, Bluewallet gave me a legacy address and I didn't notice. I should've given it the zpub, I know better now.
Now I like to move that BTC but the first TX I made in Sparrow, which is watch-only, m/0'/0'/0' and correctly fingerprinted, watching legacy, sees the UTXO and scripts the psbt but the Coldcard refuses to sign saying "failure. my xfp not involved".
Alright, I created a second psbt with the original culprit Bluewallet but Coldcard doesn't like to sign this psbt either as "m/44' led to wrong pubkey for input#0" and this is where I need help rabbitholing.
This watch-only Bluewallet always has been on derivation path m/44'/0'/0'/0', I didn't interfere the xpub import to begin with, this is how it got the idea to give me a legacy address. How come even Bluewallets psbt isn't pleasing the Coldcard?
What does Coldcard need from me now? Thank you 🤙

Worst case load your BIP39 mnemonic in Electrum and move your funds. Create a native Segwit with 44 derivation
548 days ago•••
Sorry, what blue wallet probably did was create a legacy wallet with 84 derivation
548 days ago•••
Why would Bluewallet create anything when I only imported a watch only xpub? I tried signing txs that were done with with 0', 44', 84' with the same imported xpub with Sparrow but Coldcard refuses to sign the psbt.
This is what Bluewallet, which still has its default 44' path, produces:L and it gives no obvious option to change the path:

I've been where you are. The problem is old versions of Blue wallet would always create legacy wallet if a xpub were imported even if derivation were 84. If I were you I would put your coldcard aside and use your mnemonic, load it in a hot electrum with this "weird" setup: legacy with 84 derivation. Your funds will be there ready to be transferred.

I think it is the ONLY way as far as I can tell from researching the issue. It is the most up to date version of Bluewallet though.

I made it 🎉 However my seed is hot now 🤨 But get this: it was derivation path m Just m, no 0, 44, 84,... Just m, that's the master xpubs derivation path, you can derive anything from it... So why not just derive LEGACY addresses! Thanks Bluewallet! Anyways. Glad it's done. I wrap it up, write a blog and hopefully the next educated fool who steps in this trap will be able to solve it quicker. "That's it for today, and as always, I hope you learnt something!"

Nice you made it! Now the sats are free move them to a new cold storage! And always remember to verify receive addresses on your HWW before! Also good idea to test move some of the sats out of it, and restore it from mnemonic before move use it for larger amounts.

Krux encrypted mnemonic QR codes. Use case is similar to passphrases but UX is different. Can be used together with passphrases as additional security layer and enhance storage and transport security.
